Black metal extension designed around Indigenous Australian dot painting

An ugly rear extension was replaced with a a contemporary cubic volume formed of black metal and floor to roof sliding glazing.

A projecting glass box oriel window provides a picture frame to the garden views as well as a window seat.

The glass to glass joints are UV bonded and are completely transparent.

The client is an art collector and owns a significant piece of Indigenous Australian art using ‘dot painting’.

Interior space of the extension was designed to maximise the presence of the piece.

Bold turquoise shades contrast the colours of the painting and compliment the black metal standing seam zinc cladding.
